Certified War Hero, Frustrating Political Coward
Senator John McCain (R-AZ) spent five or six years as a POW in Vietnam. The Senator had an opportunity to leave, but choose instead to stay behind. The accounts of his ordeal were front and center in the 2008 Presidential campaign. McCain said per my paraphrase, that he fell in love with his country while being held captive in another. That his captors broke him. This story is truly a profile in courage and determination. It just cannot be imagined how difficult the situation was. McCain even today is affected by the wounds he suffered. I have said myself McCain would make a great Secretary of Defense. However... Given McCain's undeniable war hero status and guts, you would think these attributes would carry over to his political career. Unfortunately, McCain has proven to be more of a disappointment to Conservatives than hero. I would go as far as to say McCain is a political coward and collaborator. This stems from his propensity to seek out Democrats for compromise rather than fighting for Conservative principles. McCain in many ways has undercut Conservatives. The Gang of 14 being one example. This collaborative streak in McCain is the reason why RINOs must be dealt with accordingly. McCain would just become an Independent like his buddy Senator Joe Liberman (D-CT) if he had any political guts. Instead, McCain uses the GOP party as his coward sanctuary. I tell you what... If McCain was a career politician first and went off to war second, there would be historical grounds not to believe his POW story. There would be great reason to believe he was a collaborator with the enemy, not resistor. Senator McCain asked us to fight with him during the 2008 Presidential campaign. I ask the Senator now to stay in the foxhole with Conservatives and help rebuild the party.
