Illegal Alien Resurrection

The Obama administration has talked in recent days of a "path to citizenship" for the millions of illegal aliens in America.  Conservatives know exactly what this meas...AMNESTY.  We know because Senator John McCain, our favorite political collaborator pushed it back in 2006 with various other Democrats and President Bush.  The bill was written behind closed doors and pushed on the American people.  It didn't even single out criminal aliens for deportation.  The bill was quickly defeated after a "REVOLT" by the voters.  We have already learned via the down economy that illegal immigrants will self-deport if work is not available.  We also know that in places like the Swift Plant in Worthington, MN, there are American citizens willing to do the work illegal aliens are doing.  How about building a border fence, enforcing the laws, repealing birth-right citizenship, and cracking down on employers?  Throw some CEOs in jail for immigration violations under their watch.  Otherwise, why push this ridiculous bill?  It is all about new DFL voters and an expansion of the welfare state.  The GOP better wake up ASAP and see the light on this one.  It could turn out to be the final nail in the coffin for the party.  Personally, why do we need immigration in the first place?  The country is different than in the industrialization period at the turn of the century.  You would think the wise thing to do would be to place restrictions on immigration and requirements.  Require English language skills.  Require work skills the U.S.A. is in short supply of.  This is sort of what H1-B visas are about.  Other than that, we don't need to grow the population by immigration.  This constant influx of largely unskilled labor is a drag on the country.  America cannot be a safe haven for the world while the modern welfare state exists.  The overburdening of the welfare state and other services by illegal and even legal immigrants will be the end of us.
