Conservative Band of Brothers
The Tea Parties held around the country to protest the government takeover of business, out of control spending, and outright assault on personal liberty (Socialism) are 10 days past now. I have been meaning to write about them, but haven't quite known how to go about it. This Tea Party movement was so grassroots and local. Some GOP hacks even tried to hitch a ride and were pushed aside. These Tea Parties were very primordial ooze. There will be new Conservative activism born from this. The best and most honorable analogy for this movement is found in the series Band of Brothers. In episode #6 Easy Company finds themselves on the front lines in. The Battle of the Buldge. No warm clothing, few supplies, constant artillery bombardment via the Germans, it is just a miserable 30 or so days. The grunts (Conservatives) stayed low in their foxholes and maintained a vigilant watch over the forest. Their leader Lt Dike (GOP), is an elitist ivy league puke from West Point. Dike is just along for the experience before his fast track to higher command. Dike spends his time in the rear at "meetings" or just out of sight and doesn't get to know any of the sliders. Dike eventually cracks in episode #7, and is relieved, but you get the picture. I must apologize for using a very honorable military unit as my analogy, but we Conservatives have been left on the front lines by ourselves for a decade or more. We do have a few good leaders as Easy Company did: Senators DeMint, Vitter, Inhofe, and Kyl, but there are far too many Lt Dikes in the GOP: Senators McCain, Spector, Snowe, and Collins being the most abhorrent right now. You can see my preference is to single out Senators. The Senate is the most important piece of the puzzle due to the 60 vote requirement. The DFL doesn't have 60 votes without the previously mentioned Moderate Lt Dike losers. Long live the Tea Party grunts!
