Observations From the Front Lines of "Controlled" Health Care

I have been watching this attempted Socialization of Health Care by President Obama in amazement.  As with anything the Democrats want to do, it is never about helping America. If it was, the Democrats would see from history that their schemes have already been tried and failed by other left-wing kooks local and global.  It is about "control."  The minimization of freedom, etc...  I look back upon an incident in the Army that resulted in an emergency room visit.  I had hurt my neck during a night training operation.  My neck spasmed and was tilted to the right.  I went to the emergency room back on base.  I remember walking into the emergency room and seeing a few women with children in tow.  The kids were all sick in some form.  Fever, runny nose, etc...  I waited for several hours and never was seen.  I ended up heading back to the barracks and going on sick call in the morning (scoring Naproxen).  Now, the issue in this story isn't that my emergency room visit resulted in zero treatment.  The issue is that kids were taken to the emergency room for non-emergency care.  This is the exact same thing illegal immigrants, lonely seniors, etc, do...  They use the emergency room as their primary care source.  There was a study done several years back that essentially found if the hospital would charge a $12 co-pay, it was enough of a deterrent to keep these "hypochondriacs" away.  Health care is free in the Army to soldiers and dependents.  Thus, free equals much more demand.  The Democrats would never allow a co-pay requirement though.  The emergency room has to be free even if your ailment is sloth.  Heck, the majority of American's have some co-pay on their employer provided health care.  Why not for the free loaders as well?  The next example of health care idiocy is college.  I remember receiving a form in college that essentially stated I had to prove current health care insurance, or the college would bill me a health services fee.  I believe the fee was around $500/semester.  What kind of captive audience scam is this?  What right does the college have to dictate our individual health care insurance needs?  I luckily had my own health insurance, but come on...$500/semester?  I paid like $80/month for my own plan.  This scenario though is EXACTLY what Obama wants to do with the health care system.  Every American must have insurance.  If you don't, and can't prove to the IRS you do, you will be fined.  I currently pay $125/month for a catastrophic care plan.  I have a $5,000 deductible, but it is completely free after that.  There is even a similar plan that costs about $10/month more and covers the first $1,000, then the $5,000 deductible applies, and then it is all free.  This is EXACTLY the kind of health care every American should have on their own.  A plan that allows for some preventive doctor visits, but shields from major disaster.  I had my disaster back in 2004.  My appendix burst.  The total bill was over $15,000, but my exposure was $1,200.  Sure, it sucks to pay out $1,200, but being financially ruined by $15,000 in debt is far far far worse.  I say that the government should open up the private health care system and let insurance companies provide what people really need.  Low cost plans that cover a few simple doctor visits, but also insulate from major medical care needs.  I will end this by stating special needs individuals are a separate case and another article.  I am covering the 95% case here.  I hope this is true and health care Socialization is ended!
