I had an epiphany at Target today.  I'm walking my usual shopping route and noticed a large crowd around a free sample station.  The crowd size suggested they were given out Beluga caviar, but that was not the case.  What then?  Single squares of Frosted Mini Wheats.  I love Frosted Mini Wheats, but would not wait in line for a single square, or a whole box for that matter.  It then dawned on me this is EXACTLY why government Health Care won't work and why every government program that gives something for nothing already doesn't work.  It also gives deeper insight into what is wrong with America.  I remember my grandmother telling me how they could have qualified for various government programs during the lean times, but instead just made due with less.  Their pride and sense of responsibility wouldn't allow for a "handout."  I personally don't accept anything for free minus the token Christmas gift.  The reasoning is pretty simple.  If I need or want something, I already have it because I purchased it.  Otherwise, I want for nothing.  Well, except for an Audi RS4, but lets not get greedy here.  The minute government Health Care becomes law and is available, it will have the same issue as with the "Cash for Clunkers" program.  The Health Care system will be overwhelmed and either benefits will be denied and/or taxes will be raised.  If people are willing to fight a small crowd for a hunk of government subsidized wheat, what will they do for a free doctor visit?  I have thought about potential solutions to the already existing guaranteed emergency care.  I think that the cost of emergency room care should follow that patient around for life.  That way if the recipient does eventually have the ability to pay, they will get a bill.  I also think that the recipient should be required to pay some income determined monthly fee.  To help whittle down the bill.  If they are already on government assistance, just automatically deduct the fee from their check.  We cannot allow people to get ANYTHING for free.  People must have some vested stake in any government service.  Even if it is $20 per month on a $15,000 appendectomy bill or a $5 co-pay on a doctor visit.  What about illegal aliens?  I say bill Mexico.  We already give Mexico billions in aide.  Just cut them off, or implement some Western Union tax on all cash transfers to Mexico.  Done!
