GOP And DFL Battle For Title Of Most "Leaderless Party" (Updated)
American has been a very polarized nation since the 2000 Presidential election. Not because of President Bush's win, but due to the emergence of more media formats, more political issues, etc... What do you get when you combine 24/7 media coverage with any issue that has two sides? The proverbial near 50/50 split in GOP/DFL. The caveat here is that Conservative identity is up over 50% now. Liberal is around 20%, etc... This bodes well for the GOP who stand to make BIG gains come the 2010 elections just by showing up. That is, unless they shoot themselves in the foot. Enter RNC Chairman Michael Steele. I was a supported of Steele's prior to his nomination. I do recall he won by a hair. I also recall that Steele botched his first few interviews, etc... That is all in the past now and Steele grades himself well. A "B" for Steele. I would say more like a "C" since Steele has been rather slow to develop any strategy for 2010, but we'll go with it for now. Until you get to this. The GOP CAN'T win back the House this year? Wtf Steele?! I'm inclined to agree with the GOP on this one. Especially with Steele releasing a new book and supposedly accepting speaking fees? The RNC Chairman is making money for himself as GOP election coffers lag behind the DFL? The same DFL that has a foot in the grave via retirements, bad polling, etc... Ugh! Leave it to the GOP leadership to completely screw up a "freebie." Fortunately, the DFL is as leaderless as the GOP. Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) has yet again provided a gaffe. More here. The "Headless GOP Horseman" Steele makes the obvious call. After all, it is only fair that Reid resign as did Senator Trent Lott (R-MI). Reid won't go. Reid is an incompetent Deer Tick suckling at the blood of taxpayers via a government job. The man has no friends left in the world. Reid don't dare go back to NV. I suspect Reid might get nudged out after the State of the Union address by President Obama. So, we have two leaderless political parties. The first, DFL, is destroying the country and behind in the polls. Even in very Liberal MA. The late Ted Kennedy's seat is up for grabs by the Conservative Scott Brown. The DFL is worried, but why? It is 11 months from election day and the GOP has no leadership or strategy. The RNC Chairman Steele hasn't helped fund raising either. The 2010 election could very well be one where true Conservatism, and the rejection of the GOP in general, might trump money and party. Sure, these candidates will run as GOP, but given the apparent lack of GOP money or strategy, it will be a political affiliation by proxy...
Update 01/14/2009: Go get him Dick! Dick Morris does what Steele apparently can't... Fight! The GOP is so leaderless an ex-DFL strategist has to lead the way. Ugh!
